Kolkata Knight Riders have selected Shreyas Iyer to be their captain for the Indian Premier League 2024 season. Iyer missed the 2023 season due to a back injury in April 2023. Nitish Rana, who led the side in the last season in his absence was named vice-captain of KKR. (More Cricket News)

KKR have released 12 players including Umesh Yadav, Lockie Ferguson and Shardul Thakur. They have INR 32.7 crore in their purse before the auction on 19th December
Iyer recently had a very successful ODI World Cup where he scored more than 500 runs in the tournament. He was bought by KKR for INR 12.25 crore (approx. USD 1.5 million) ahead of IPL 2022. He also missed last year's World Test Championship Final against Australia due to his back injury.?
"I believe the last season presented us with several challenges, including my absence due to injury. Nitish did a great job not only filling in for me but also with his commendable leadership. I am delighted that KKR has named him vice-captain. No doubt it will strengthen the leadership group", said Iyer in a statement.
Kolkata Knight Riders have finished seventh on the points table for the last two seasons. Iyer surely would like to make some changes taking inputs from coach Chandrakant Pandit and new team mentor Gautam Gambhir. KKR have won their two IPL titles in 2012 and 2014 under Gambhir's captaincy.

KKR CEO Venky Mysore commented, "It was indeed unfortunate that Shreyas missed IPL 2023 due to injury. We are delighted that he's back and at the helm as captain. The way he has worked hard to recover from his injury and the form he has displayed is a testament to his character".
