Amnesty International alleges 'genocide' against Palestinians
Condemning Israel, the human rights group in a report asserted that such extent of atrocity could not be justified by Hamas' October 7, 2023, attack into Israel.
“Our damning findings must serve as a wake-up call to the international community: this is genocide. It must stop now,” Agnès Callamard, Secretary General of Amnesty International, said in the report.
Amnesty's report added strength to a growing list of countries that have accused Israel of committing genocide — which would put it in the company of some of the deadliest conflicts of the past 80 years, including Cambodia, Sudan, and Rwanda.
Israeli strikes on Lebanon
Lebanon's Health Ministry and state media say Israeli forces have carried out several new drone and artillery strikes in southern Lebanon, killing a shepherd. The new Israeli strikes on Tuesday put further strain on a tenuous 6-day-old ceasefire with Hezbollah.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed keep striking “with an iron fist” against perceived Hezbollah violations of the truce.
He spoke a day after Israel carried out a wave of airstrikes that killed nearly a dozen people in Lebanon. Those strikes came after the Lebanese militant group fired a volley of projectiles as a warning over what it said were previous Israeli ceasefire violations.
Syria Insurgency: Leader tours Aleppo, Ferce battles intensify near Hama
Days after the latest escalations in Syria, Abu Mohammed al-Golani, the head of the strongest jihadi group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, toured the seized city of Aleppo on Wednesday. The sudden capture of the Syrian city Aleppo added further tension to the existing turmoil in West Asia.
It was the first opposition attack on the city since 2016, when a brutal Russian air campaign retook the northwestern city for Assad after rebel forces had initially seized it. Intervention by Russia, Iran and Iranian-allied militant Hezbollah and other groups has allowed Assad to remain in power.
