India continued their impressie run at the T20 World Cup 2024 winning their opening Super 8 match by 47 runs against Afghanistan. Meanwhile, the UEFA European Championship saw England held 1-1 by Denmark and the Slovenia-Serbia clash also saw the same stalemate. In the Queen's Club tennis championship, defending champions and recently crowned French Open winner Carlos Alcaraz was knocked out in the second round. "We feel, we are ready and rested. We feel we are prepared. Afghanistan are a dangerous team in this format. They have shown with their performances in this World Cup.

"They might not have a lot of international experience, but some of their players play regularly in T20 leagues, in fact, more than some of our players do. They are well-travelled cricketers, especially in the T20 circuit. A lot of them are very prominent members in their IPL teams and other teams.

"Certainly, in this format, they are not a team that should be taken lighltly and they are deservedly in the Super 8s. We will not treat them any differently as we would treat any other team we expect to play in the Super 8s," he added. 

Andy Murray retired from his second-round match at Queen's Club because of a back injury on Wednesday, raising doubts about what is expected to be his final Wimbledon appearance.

The 37-year-old Murray stopped playing while trailing Jordan Thompson 4-1, and the former No. 1 player said he'd get scans on Thursday.

The two-time Wimbledon champion, who has signaled his intention to retire later this year, said he “wouldn't know” about whether he'll be ready when play starts July 1 at the All England Club. (AP)

Justin Sammons has been named the new head coach of Zimbabwe's men's cricket team.Sammons was a former batting coach with his home country's national team, the Proteas. Dave Houghton resigned as Zimbabwe's head coach last year after the country failed to qualify for the ongoing Twenty20 World Cup in the U.S. and West Indies.

Hockey India on Thursday decided to keep faith in its proven performers while announcing a 27-strong list of men's team core probables for a pre-Olympic national camp which will be conducted from June 21 to July 8 at the SAI centre.

Uganda captain Brian Masaba, who led his country for five years including the ongoing T20 World Cup in the Americas, stepped down from his post after his side could not go beyond the group stage in the global showpiece.

A two-member team of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) will be here on Friday as part of their inspection for the World Championship venue.

"FIDE's Planning and Development Commission Secretary, Kermen Goryaeva, and FIDE's Head of PR, Anna Volkova, will be on duty for this," reliable sources told PTI.

Indian recurve archery outfits produced a sloppy show and failed to win a medal in the World Cup Stage 3 here on Thursday, but they have virtually qualified for the Paris Olympics based on world rankings.

In the Stage 3 competition, Indian women finished fourth while men progressed till the last 16 and now they will have to wait till Monday for the official list based on the rankings to be announced by the World Archery. (PTI)

Two-time Tour de France champion Jonas Vingegaard has recovered in time to defend his title next week. But, there are still doubts about his ability to be competitive.

Team Serbia have threatened to pull out of UEFA Euro 2024 over the chanting heard among fans about the 'killing of Serbians' during the match between Croatia and Albania on Wednesday. The general secretary of the Football Association of Serbia, Jovan Surbatovic said, "What happened is scandalous and we will ask [European governing body] Uefa for sanctions, even if it means not continuing the competition."

Seems like Slovenia have learned the lessons from the defeat against England and becoming a tough challenge for Serbia’s backline. Aleksandar Mitrovic's attempt missed from the centre of the box to the left as Serbia remain goalless.
