Rafael Nadal left Madrid feeling better about his fitness than he did when he arrived, and is now planning to play in Rome while continuing his preparations for the French Open.

“Today is unforgettable day in terms of saying ‘goodbye, Madrid,’” he said. “But my career keeps going, and I have my personal goals that I have got in the next couple of weeks, and I want to explore if I have any chance to achieve that.”

“That’s another very special tournament in my career,” he said. “I dreamed to play all these tournaments that I had success one more time. I missed Monte Carlo unfortunately, that is one of the most special for me, but Rome is one of these ones that I enjoyed a lot playing there.” (AP)

Manchester United announced more changes to its executive structure as the new era under co-owner Jim Ratcliffe continues to take shape.

Interim CEO Patrick Stewart and chief financial officer Cliff Baty will step down at the end of the season by mutual consent, the club said.

Jean-Claude Blanc, CEO of Ratcliffe's INEOS Sport, will take over as chief executive until former Manchester City executive Omar Berrada takes on the role on July 13.

Baty will be replaced by former INEOS Sport chief financial officer Roger Bell. (AP)

Team Read Bull announced that Adrian Newey, the designer pivotal in Red Bull's dominance of Formula One, will step down early before the 2025 season.

The 65-year-old Newey will end his near two-decade career with Red Bull in the “first quarter of 2025."

“For almost two decades it has been my great honour to have played a key role in Red Bull Racing's progress from upstart newcomer to multiple title-winning team," said Newey.

“However, I feel now is an opportune moment to hand that baton over to others and to seek new challenges for myself," he added.

Indian pugilists Aryan, Yashwardhan Singh, Priyanshu and Sahil marched into the semi-finals with confident wins at the ASBC Asian U-22 & Youth Boxing Championships in Astana on Wednesday.

The All India Football Federation's disciplinary committee has handed out a suspension of two matches, with an additional suspended sentence of another two games, to Mohun Bagan Super Giant player Armando Sadiku for making offensive gestures in the technical area during their ISL match against Odisha FC in Bhubaneshwar on April 23.

Sadiku violated Article 51 of the apex body's disciplinary code. He has also been sanctioned Rs 50,000 for his current recorded offence. The MBSG footballer from Albania was found in breach of Article 51 of the code due to his offensive gestures in the technical area against a match official, following his second yellow card (automatic red) in the 67th minute of the match.
