Odisha Intensifies Covid Response As Cases Surge, Asks Hospitals Ramp Up Testing
As Odisha grapples with a sudden rise in COVID-19 cases, the state government issues urgent directives to medical institutions, emphasizing heightened surveillance, testing, and community awareness to combat the potential surge.
The government outlined specific measures, urging an increase in surveillance for influenza-like illness (ILI) and severe acute respiratory infection (SARI). Testing facilities are to be expanded to all health institutions. For individuals testing positive, strict adherence to home isolation protocols is mandated. Additionally, necessary treatment support, dedicated beds, and oxygen-supported beds are to be ensured in accordance with COVID management protocols.
Authorities were instructed to closely follow the COVID management strategy and collaborate with district administrations to boost community awareness through Information Education Communication (IEC) and Behaviour Change Communication (BCC) initiatives. The focus is on encouraging symptomatic, elderly, and vulnerable populations to adhere to COVID-19 appropriate behavior.
To tackle the situation effectively, the government stressed the importance of maintaining an adequate supply of test kits, reagents, drugs, and consumables. Timely data entry and reporting, along with training and capacity building of healthcare providers and laboratory personnel, are emphasized. A contingency plan is to be kept ready to address any unforeseen developments.
