Manipur: Protestors Burn Down House Of Man Who Paraded Women Naked, All 4 Accused Remanded To 11-Day Police Custody

In a separate development, all four accused in the case were remanded to 11-day police custody.

It has been reported that a group of protestors, mostly women, set the accused's house on fire.?

Two days ago, in a purported?video, two women from the Kuki-Zomi-dominated hill district of Kangpokpi , one in her 20s and the other in her 40s, were?seen being made to walk naked down a road by a mob of men. Some of the men were also seen dragging the two women towards a field and forcibly groping them.

Taking suo moto cognisance of the video, the Manipur Police had on Wednesday night registered a case of abduction, gangrape and murder at Nongpok Sekmai Police Station in Thoubal district against unidentified men.

According to officials, four people have been arrested so far in the case. ANI on Friday reported that they have been remanded to 11-day police custody.

On Thursday, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh said a thorough investigation is underway into the incident and said strict action, including possible capital punishment, will follow.

According to the official statement issued by Manipur Police on Wednesday, the state police and Central forces have concluded search operations in several vulnerable and fringe areas including the valley and hill districts.?

In a bid to maintain law and order, curfew relaxation has been curtailed in five valley districts.

The official statement also said that 126 checkpoints have been installed in different districts of Manipur while police have made 452 arrests in connection with rule violations in different districts.

To restore normalcy in the state, authorities have appealed for public cooperation.
