Indian Army and The Government denied any reports by a regional newspaper that claimed a surgical strike in Pakistan, carried out by the Indian Army.
The Press Information Bureau (PIB) followed up with a ’fact check’ saying related news reports were fake.A regional newspaper caused this rumour to spark, citing unnamed sources claiming a surgical strike in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on Saturday night, by the Indian Army.
The encounter involved shooting of two terrorists, who were trying to cross the LoC. As reported, the terrorists have been severely hit as blood trails could be traced, leading from the Indian side of the LoC towards Pakistan’s side. “Inclement weather, dense fog, thick foliage, and undulating ground in Hamirpur area of Balakote Sector,” have been quoted as reasons for the terrorists to infiltrate the border this easily.?
Although their death remains uncertain, the Indian Army recovered an AK-47 rifle, two magazines, 30 rounds of ammunition, two hand grenades and medicine strips with Pakistan imprints on them.?
“Intelligence inputs received from multiple intelligence agencies and Jammu and Kashmir Police revealed the presence of terrorists waiting to cross the LC from the Balakote Sector. Based on these inputs, its own surveillance grid was placed on heightened alert and multiple ambushes were sited at suitable locations," the Army had said on Monday.
