As early trends poured in for Karnataka assembly elections, numbers showed?Karnataka chief minister Basavraj Bommai?leading from the?Shiggaon?seat in the state's Haveri district.?

BJP candidate and incumbent chief minister Basavaraj Bommai has got 12,679 votes, according to the Election Commission of India. Congress's?Pathan?Pathan Yasirahmedkhan received?6443 votes and JD(S)'s Shashidhar Yeligar received?1215 votes.

In 2018, BJP won 104 seats, falling?short of the majority mark of 113 in the 224-seat Assembly. Shiggaon was one of the seats it won.?Congress' Sayed Azeempeer Khadri was second and an independent candidate, Somanna Urf Swamiling Bevinamarad, trailed third.

Bommai?has been elected as an MLA three times from Shiggaon?since the 2008 Karnataka assembly election.?He took over as the chief minister after former CM BS Yediyurappa resigned.?In the last election in 2018, Bommai won from the constituency by?9,260 votes.

The Congress has not been able to win the seat, once considered its stronghold, since 1999. The JD(S) and independent candidates won from here in 1999 and 2004 respectively.?Bommai first contested the Assembly elections in 2008 as a BJP candidate, after quitting Janata Dal (United).
