IMD Weather Forecast: Light Rainfall Predicted For Delhi-NCR, Punjab; North India Braces For Cold Wave

With temperatures rapidly dropping, IMD has predicted an incoming cold wave for the northern region of India. Meanwhile, for the southern states, rainfall has been forcast due to a disturbance in the Bay of Bengal.

The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted light rain across Delhi NCR and Punjab as the winter season sets in. With temperatures rapidly dropping, IMD has also predicted an incoming cold wave for the northern region of India.

For the next week, the weather department has predicted a cold wave for states in Northern India. Meanwhile, for the southern states, heavy rainfall has been forecast due to a low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal.

Delhi Temperature Drops To 8 Degrees

As the winter season sets in, the national capital recorded a minimum temperature of 8 degrees Celsius on Sunday morning, which is two degrees below the season's average.

As per IMD, the forecast for Delhi is cloud skies with a chance of light rain or drizzle during the day. Along with this dip in temperature, Delhi's air quality index has also dropped to the "poor" level.

As of 9 AM, the Central Pollution Control Board recorded Delhi's AQI levels at 276.

An AQI between zero and 50 is considered 'good', 51 and 100 'satisfactory', 101 and 200 'moderate', 201 and 300 'poor', 301 and 400 'very poor', and 401 and 500 'severe'.

Cold Wave Headed For North India

With Delhi's temperature dropping to eight degrees Celsius, the northern region of the country is bracing for a cold wave. The IMD has predicted light rainfall across Delhi-NCR, Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh until December 9.

IMD has also issued snowfall warnings in the Himalayan region. Furthermore, the weather department has predicted dense fog across Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura until December 9.

Similar conditions have also been predicted for Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan Uttar Pradesh and parts of the sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.

In Himachal Pradesh, a yellow alert has been issued for snowfall in isolated places.

Rainfall Alert On For The South

Across South India, the IMD has predicted rainfall for several states. In Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, the weather department has predicted light to moderate rainfall.

Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Mahe are also expected to experience isolated heavy rainfall till December 13.
