A three-year-old girl, who fell into a 30-feet-deep borewell in Ran village succumbed to her injuries in Gujarat's Devbhumi Dwarka district.

The incident occurred at approximately 1 pm on Monday, and the toddler was retrieved from the borewell in an unconscious state around 9.50 pm.

Subsequently, she was urgently transported to a hospital in Jam Khambhalia town for treatment, where she passed away during the night, as confirmed by medical authorities.

Initial reports indicated that asphyxiation was a potential cause of her demise, pending confirmation from a post-mortem examination.

The girl had fallen into the open borewell while playing, prompting the deployment of Army and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel for rescue efforts, according to Deputy Collector HB Bhagora.

An NDRF official shared that the rescue operation involved securing the girl's hand with a rope and utilizing an L-shaped hook for stability.

Simultaneously, parallel digging was conducted in a bid to reach the child. Immediately after her extraction from the borewell, an ambulance rushed her to a government hospital in Jam Khambhalia.

When the girl was brought to the general hospital in Jam Khambhalia, which is nearly 35 km from the site of the incident, she was declared dead, the medical facility's resident medical officer Dr Ketan Bharathi said.
?
"A paediatrician from the hospital was accompanying the medical team stationed at the site of the incident when the rescue operation was underway. As soon as the girl was brought out of the borewell, her treatment started while she was rushed to the hospital on an ambulance," Dr Bharathi said.
?
"We carried out the post-mortem and found asphyxia (a condition when the body is deprived of oxygen) as the cause of her death," he added.

The girl's father worked at a windmill in the area, as per locals.

The borewell, located near the girl's house, was dug up long back but was later abandoned and left open, they said.
