Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 40.1 degrees Celsius?on Monday making it the hottest September day in the last 85 years. This comes days after the India Meteorological Department declared August 2023 to have witnessed the highest maximum temperatures since 1901.

According to reports, there was a 61 per cent rainfall deficit in Delhi in the month of August and so far there hasn't been any rain in September this year.
The IMD shared a 7-day forecast for Delhi where they predicted a partly cloudy sky with very light rain for September 5 and 6 and the maximum temperature is expected to reach 37 degrees while the minimum might be 27 degrees Celsius.
.The IMD posted on X that August of 2023 was the hottest since 1901. They wrote, "All India average mean and Maximum temperatures in August 2023 were the record highest since 1901 and minimum temperature was second highest."
They also mentioned what could be the reason behind such high temperatures, they said, "The large rainfall deficiency and weak monsoon condition is the main reason for the high temperature."
