BSP MP Danish Ali criticized the Modi government for the Delhi University Academic Council's decision to eliminate a chapter on poet Muhammad Iqbal from the political science curriculum. Ali stated, "Removing Allama Iqbal's unit from Delhi University's Under Graduate syllabus and playing 'Saare Jahan se Achcha' in the background during the inauguration of New Parliament exposes the contradiction of 'New India'." The reference was made to the song playing in the background of a short film showcased during the inauguration ceremony of the new Parliament building.

Ali did not attend the inauguration, unlike other BSP MPs. Iqbal, born in 1877 in Sialkot in undivided India, is renowned for writing the famous song 'Saare Jahan Se Achha' and is often associated with the formation of Pakistan. Delhi University Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh expressed on Saturday that individuals who were involved in dividing India should not be part of the syllabus.

During a meeting on Friday, the university's Academic Council passed a motion to remove the chapter titled 'Modern Indian Political Thought' from the sixth-semester paper of the BA program. The matter will now be forwarded to the university's Executive Council for a final decision, as per officials.
