28-Year-Old Man Tests Positive For MERS-Coronavirus In Abu Dhabi: WHO

The?World Health Organization said on Monday confirmed that a?28-year-old man has tested positive for the potentially fatal Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) in a city in Abu Dhabi.

According to the official statement, the man?was admitted to a hospital last month.

All 108 people who came in close contact with the man have been checked by the Health officials.

No secondary infections had turned up so far, the statement added.

The WHO in its statement also mentioned that there were no signs the man had come into contact with dromedary camels, which spread the disease that is separate from Covid-19.

MERS-CoV cases so far

As per media reports, symptoms of MERS-CoV include fever, coughing, and shortness of breath, and in some cases can lead to pneumonia.

So far, the cases caused by the variant has?been recorded in 27 countries since 2012, according to WHO figures.

Over that time, 2,605 cases and 936 associated deaths have been reported, as per data.
