Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party -Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf will be observing Thursday,10 August as “Thanksgiving and Salvation Day” as the imprisoned?PM’s government culminates after a 16-month long tenure.?

Arif Alvi, the President had dissolved the National Assembly on Wednesday night? following the outgoing PM Shehbaz Sharif’s recommendation. The dissolution marked the denouement of the current government’s tenure three days ahead of its mandated term.?

However, Sharif will continue his duties as the premier until a caretaker prime minister gets appointed in his place. As per the notification for dissolution issued by the Presidential Palace, the dissolution of the National Assembly? was carried out under Article 58 of the constitution.?

Following the dissolution of the National Assembly on Wednesday, Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI) announced that the former PM Khan’s party will be observing Thursday, August 10 as “Thanksgiving and Salvation Day”, as per the report by Geo News. The PTI core committee issued a statement on the same day, confirming the announcement. The PDM alliance which replaced the government of Khan in April 2022 decided to commemorate the end of their 16-month tenure.?

As per the statement issued by the PTI, it intends to put forth a detailed analysis of the “devastation” caused by the PDM-led government before the nation. It further added that the former ruling party had decided to inform the masses about censorship and repression of media and journalists. They also plan on unearthing details related to skyrocketing inflation and economic disaster.?

The dissolution of National Assembly came after former premier Khan got charged for corruption. On Saturday, August 5, A 70-year-old Khan was sentenced to three years in prison by an Islamabad trial court, having been implicated in the Toshakhana corruption case for unlawfully selling state gifts between 2018 and 2022, while he was serving his term as the PM. Khan was then arrested from his residence in Lahore by the Punjab Police.?

Former PM is currently lodged in Attock Jail, and has appealed his conviction and the three-year prison sentence in the case , through his lawyers, who have filed a plea at the Islamabad high Court on Tuesday.?

Following the dissolution of the lower house of parliament three days ahead of its mandated period, elections will be held by the Election Commission Of Pakistan within the next 90 days.
