The incident unfolded late on Day 1 as Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne was preparing to face Mohammed Siraj. Burtt, attempting to evade security guards, crossed the sight screen area holding his towering creation.

The movement startled Labuschagne, forcing him to step away from the crease mid-delivery. Siraj, already in his run-up, threw the ball towards the batter in frustration, sparking a brief exchange of words.

Speaking to 9News, Burtt later admitted he hadn’t anticipated the impact of his actions. “In my head at that time, I just wanted to get away from the guard, so I saw the space and hopped over the tiny white rope. I didn’t really have time to stop and think about the repercussions,” he explained.

Despite the incident, Burtt issued an apology to Labuschagne, who graciously accepted it, responding with “no worries, brother” on social media. Reflecting on the moment, Burtt said, “I did feel a bit silly. It wasn’t the right thing to do… sorry, Marnus. It was one ball, and Marnus got a four after that, so no worries.”

Burtt’s “beer snake,” crafted with the help of seven friends, reportedly cost a staggering AUD 2,750 (INR 1,48,699). The group of 67 fans managed to collect the cups during the game, pooling resources to create their “marvel.” As Burtt described, “The funny thing was everyone could buy four drinks at one time, so we were all sitting there with four drinks each.”

Despite the brief disruption, Labuschagne went on to score a solid 64 runs, helping Australia dominate the match. The hosts secured a ten-wicket victory, levelling the series 1-1.

The two teams will now head to the Gabba in Brisbane for the third Test of the series beginning on Saturday, December 14.
