Ronit Bose Roy Talks About Shahid Kapoor-Ali Abbas Zafar’s ‘Bloody Daddy’, Film’s OTT Release And More

Actor Ronit Roy says the primary reason he took up ‘Bloody Daddy’ was because the script, and that it was being helmed by Ali Abbas Zafar.

The trailer of Ali Abbas Zafar’s ‘Bloody Daddy’ released a couple of days ago. The film, which is headlined by Shahid Kapoor, has actor Ronit Roy play a menacing drug lord. Ahead of the action thriller's release on June 9 on JioCinema, Ronit Roy, in a conversation with Gurpreet Kaur of Outlook India, revealed what made him take up the project, and opened up about the film’s OTT release. Edited excerpts from an interview:

First and foremost, tell us the main reason why you decided to be part of ‘Bloody Daddy’?

The primary reason why I took up ‘Bloody Daddy’ was because the script was very good. The second reason was that the film was being helmed by Ali Abbas Zafar, who I think is a great director and a great human being. I love that man, and I think Ali has a knack of creating a very nice, unusual world in his films, and in that world, he places his characters very very well. Hence, Ali Abbas Zafar was the prime reason I did ‘Bloody Daddy’. The star cast is wonderful too, my co-stars, including Shahid Kapoor, Rajeev Khandelwal, Sanjay Kapoor and Diana Penty. And with all guns blazing, it was great.

The film, going by the trailer, has total John Wick vibes. How do you think the film is different from other thrillers?

Yes, it is a remake of the 2011 French film ‘Sleepless Night’, and I have been told before that it gives John Wick vibes, and it is great that the trailer has been giving those vibes. But let me assure you, ‘Bloody Daddy’ is no John Wick, and the world of this world is quite different and the audience would get to know once it is on air.

The film is releasing on OTT, but of course the film’s scale and the cast is big. Do you think there’s any difference, in terms of how films are perceived in different mediums?

So, ‘Bloody Daddy’, on the outside, is a very big action entertainer, meant for OTT to be put out for JioCinema. That was the initial plan, and the makers are sticking to that plan. There was a mention or two of a theatrical release, but it was never meant to be on the cards. It was to be a huge OTT film. As for films being perceived on different mediums, I think currently we are witnessing a huge spectacle of cinema working well in theaters, apart from small content-driven films too working on the silver screen. Same is for OTT, only the viewing experience is different.?

Ali Abbas Zafar said Bloody Daddy has been designed in a way that it can be taken forward, and he’s willing to create like a universe. What’s your take on it?

I do not have the makers' plan on it, whether there will be a ‘Bloody Daddy 2’ or not. So, I cannot comment for now.

There have been reports that you will be seen in an upcoming movie titled ‘Aaj Jaane Ki Zid Na Karo’. Any update you can give us?

I am currently shooting for ‘Aaj Jaane Ki Zid Na Karo’ currently, and it is a middle-age love story. It’s in a world that has been in the past, and it is a means of reviving the old world charm. It is a love story, and I am happy to see that it is turning out well.

What other projects are you looking at??

I finished shooting for ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’ with Ali Abbas Zafar. Then there is a film for Alvira-Atul Agnihotri, of which I cannot divulge details as of yet. I am then traveling abroad for a few months, and post that, I have a crime thriller film to shoot, which is being cast now. I also have a few web shows lined up for the year end too.?
